Mother's Day Baking

This coming weekend is Mother's Day in the US. Here in the UK, we've already celebrated it, so I wanted to share with you some of the goodies that we made in class with our students to take home for their mothers on Mother's Day.

Today, I'm going to share with you some of the lovely baking that we did and sent home - trust me, it was a huge hit with the mums!

We made some flower biscuits and some white chocolate hearts/butterflies then wrapped them all up into this adorable bag to take home and look more presentable. Just continue to read this blog post to find out how you can make what we did..

Flower Biscuits

What you will need;
  • 100g butter
  • 50g caster sugar
  • A couple of drops of vanilla essence
  • 175g plain flour
  • Icing sugar / pink icing
  • Pink food colouring
  • Hundreds and thousands
What you will need to do;
  1. Preheat your oven to 150C
  2. Mix butter and sugar together
  3. Add vanilla essence, mix together
  4. Add the flour, mix together
  5. Bind together then roll out to approx 5mm depth
  6. Use a flower cutter to cut out into flower shapes
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden
Once cool, simply mix together some pink icing - or purchase pink icing - and decorate the top of the flower biscuits, then use some hundreds and thousands to decorate on top. Leave to set - either out or into the fridge.

Chocolate Hearts / Butterflies

What you will need;
  • Moulds - heart and butterfly shapes or whatever shapes you want
  • Hundreds and thousands
  • White chocolate bars
What you will need to do;
  1. Sprinkle some hundreds and thousands into the moulds
  2. Melt the white chocolate and then pour into the moulds
  3. Leave in the fridge to set
Once the biscuits and chocolates are all set, add into a cellophane bag and you're all done!
